Istanbul Mobile Fare Payments

This March, some bus riders in Istanbul will be able to leave their Istanbulkart at home. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (the governing body in charge of public transportation in Istanbul) will roll out a trial of mobile device fare payments. Riders can purchase a fare on their mobile device and will be given a QR code. Buses in the trial program will have scanners on board next to the Istanbulkart scanners. No news yet on if mobile payments will be offered at a lower rate than traditional Istanbulkart trips. This news comes after Istanbul recently increased fares by 35%.
